PHOENIX — A central Arizona city will officially open a playground this weekend built in the memory of a woman who was killed by the Islamic State.

Prescott officials said Kayla’s Hands playground — named after Prescott native Kayla Mueller — will be opened to the public during a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Numerous officials — including U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Arizona Diamondbacks President Derek Hall — are expected to be in attendance.

The park was built by the Kiwanis Club of Prescott and features numerous play areas and is intended for use by children between ages 6-12.

Carl Mueller said in January the playground will be a wonderful tribute to his daughter and some of the equipment will be accessible to children with physical disabilities.

Mueller’s death was confirmed in February 2015 by U.S. officials.

She was taken hostage by ISIS in August 2013 after leaving a hospital in Aleppo, Syria.
