New park and splash pad dedicated to Valley children’s home

PHOENIX — Children in the Mesa area are getting some relief from the end of the summer heat with a brand new park and splash pad.

Mesa Mayor John Giles cut the ribbon and opened the new McCarthy Park on Wednesday, dedicating it to the children staying at Sunshine Acres Children’s Home.

Sunshine Acres is a local foster home located just across the street from the new park.

The park was built by McCarthy Building Companies in honor of retiring President Bo Calbert and his wife Lani.

McCarthy Park cost an estimated $100,000 to build and includes a skateboard park, exercise area, basketball court, running path and playground equipment.

The costs and labor needed to build the park were donated by the McCarthy Building Companies, their employees and their families.
