In April, the Phoenix-area was home to five of the most dangerous 15 railroad crossings in the United States. Now, the state is set to hire two additional inspectors to make those crossings safer.
According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the Arizona Corporation Commission is going to improve the statewide total of inspectors from six to eight to help with the more than 3,000 miles of railroad tracks in Arizona.
The Journal said that now, “five of the 12 most dangerous railroad crossings in the U.S. are along Grand Avenue in Phoenix.”
In the last decade alone, there have been 89 incidents reported along those Grand Avenue crossings, though there hasn’t been a fatality in any of those incidents, said the Journal.
