PHOENIX — Triple-digit temperatures are back in the forecast this week, and with summer approaching, it might be a good time to get your tires checked.

Matt Allen, host of KTAR’s Bumper to Bumper Radio and owner of Virginia Auto Service, said if you feel your car shaking at freeway speeds or if you feel a wobble at low speeds, it could be a sign of tire troubles.

He also suggested bringing the car into the shop, if your tires are a bit older.

“If we have tires that are five to six years old and they’re not worn out, we really want to check those to make sure they’re not cracking and deteriorating to cause a blowout,” Allen said.

He said tires can take a beating during the summer months, not just from daily driving, but also from asphalt temperatures around 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

“I think we need to think about two things with our car,” Allen said. “First off, the safety of the car, and then the reliability, and safety obviously being the priority.”

Allen said it’s also a good idea to get the battery checked along with the radiator. He suggests bringing your car into the shop for a summer safety inspection, especially if you notice any differences or issues while driving.

“Just be in tune with your vehicle,” Allen said. “You don’t have to know everything about a car, you just have to know that something’s different than it was before.”

We want to hear from you.
