Arizona Public Service Co. plans to switch to electric vehicles, helping the company reduce emissions and fuel costs. The company will be swapping out more than 2,000 company vehicles, though a specific completion date was not determined by APS.

These vehicles travel throughout all of Arizona, so switching to more efficient electric vehicles will benefit the company greatly. Donna Easterly, vice president and chief procurement officer at APS, details what kind of effects switching to electric vehicles will have on the company.

Just as we’ve worked to modernize our grid and provide cleaner energy, we are now modernizing our fleet to reduce our carbon footprint. The fleet will be more efficient and last longer, and our bucket trucks will operate more quietly which makes inspecting and repairing power lines safer for our linemen and less disruptive for our customers.

Not only will the trucks operate more quietly, they will not require the engine to idle while operating the lift. Trucks will use an on-demand electric motor which will reduce engine hours going forward. In addition to being more efficient and longer lasting, using electric vehicles will bring about a less overall impact to the environment.
