PHOENIX — The Scottsdale Airport will be sporting a new $25 million look, with plans to replace its terminal and surrounding building with hangars and an office complex.

The Scottsdale City Council unanimously approved the redevelopment last week.

Construction was set to begin in February 2017.

The makeover was to be financed through municipal bonds and paid out over 20 years.

“Our recent master plan update and a subsequent market analysis told us clearly that we need more executive-hangar space,” aviation director Gary P. Mascaro said.

“As we explored how and where to do that, the underutilized terminal area which includes the terminal building and existing office complex was the obvious choice. We are excited about this new partnership, and the improvements it will bring to the airport.”

Spokeswoman for the airport Sarah Ferrara said the project will include a modern office complex with space for the Brick restaurant and two-executive hangars.

All the buildings will meet LEED energy efficient design and operating standards of the U.S. Green Building Council, according to airport officials.

A nonprofit group will be raising money for an art project to be included at the airport, focusing on the airfield’s World War II history as a training site.

The airpark is near 82nd Street and Greenway Road in north Scottsdale.
