PHOENIX — The man who was suspected of leading a shooting rampage throughout a Phoenix-area city has plead guilty to more than 20 counts, including one for murder.
Ryan Giroux was suspected of killing one person and injuring five others in a shooting spree last March. He plead guilty to 23 counts of murder, aggravated assault and other charges on Friday afternoon.
Giroux initially plead not guilty to the counts during an initial hearing back in December ahead of his trial, which was set to began in February.
The shooting spree began at a Tri-City Inn Motel near Main Street and Alma School Road, where Giroux killed another unidentified man and shot two more before moving on to a restaurant staffed by East Valley Institute of Technology students, where he shot another person.
He then carjacked a vehicle before shooting two others at two apartment complexes.
Giroux was arrested after an hours-long manhunt. A Mesa SWAT team captured him after he barricaded himself in a condo near Dobson Road and Eighth Avenue.
Arizona prison records show Giroux, a known white supremacist, served multiple stints in jail dating back to 1994. He has been convicted of attempt to commit aggravated assault, burglary, theft and a marijuana violation.
Giroux’s sentencing date is set for June 10.
