Man arrested in connection to wrong-way crash in Phoenix-area

PHOENIX — The suspect involved in a wrong-way driver crash in the Phoenix area that shut down a major roadway during the busy rush hour was arrested on Friday.

Daniel Bergstrom was suspected of causing a crash on the Loop 202 on Thursday, after driving eastbound on the westbound highway.

Bergstrom was arrested and booked for driving under the influence, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

According to 12 News, Bergstrom allegedly ran a red light and entered the Loop 202.

Once he was on the highway, he tried to turn around but over-corrected and hit another car going the correct direction.

At the time of the crash, Arizona Department of Public Safety officials suspected impairment.

The Loop 202 westbound from Greenfield to Val Vista was closed for hours before reopening late Thursday night.

One person suffered minor injuries after Bergstrom’s vehicle allegedly struck another car on the roadway, but no further information was given on their identity or current condition.
