Fired up: Phoenix closing in on first 100-degree day of year

PHOENIX — The race to end April in metro Phoenix holding off a 100-degree day is coming down to the wire.

Wednesday’s high of 95 could be surpassed the next day with 100, said the National Weather Service’s Phoenix bureau. The earliest 100-degree day came March 26, 1988.

The average first day of 100 in the Valley is May 2. Last year the century-mark weather arrived May 3.

The city and its’ suburbs spend through more than 100 days of 100-plus degrees annually.
