Could Apple add a second building in Mesa?

Mar 27, 2014, 2:51 PM | Updated: 2:51 pm

PHOENIX — Online speculation was running rampant Thursday when a website questioned if Apple had acquired a second building at its new Mesa, Ariz. plant.

The speculation began after Apple Insider received photos of the plant from a tipster and said it caught wind of rumors that Apple was mulling a takeover of a nearby building left vacant by First Solar.

However, the first building is still under construction, though work may already be happening.

The tipster says construction personnel are working around the clock and even on weekends to get the job done by June. Documents filed with the U.S. International Trade Administration in January revealed Apple’s “go live” target date was sometime in February, meaning the plant may be partially active as construction completes.

The plant is believed to be producing Sapphire glass, possibly for iPhones or a new consumer device.
