Excessive heat warning in effect for Valley throughout weekend

PHOENIX — Although the hot Arizona summers we all know and deal with are in full swing, officials warned we will not be escaping them anytime soon.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning across the Valley throughout the weekend, with temperatures reaching a peak of 115 degrees up until Sunday.

South-central and Northwest Pinal County, the greater Phoenix area, Coolidge and Casa Grande will be the most heavily affected. The warning also covers Southwest Arizona, including Yuma, Parker, Quartzsite, El Centro, Imperial and Blythe, the Lower Colorado River Valley, and southeast California.

Paul Iniguez with the National Weather Service said these temperatures could reach record-highs and warned residents to take extra precaution against the heat this weekend.

“If you can get out of the heat, do so,” he said. “Go inside an air-conditioned building, office, car. Hydrate — if you need to be outside, drink extra water, shade, those sorts of things. Also, remember pets as well, pets need extra water at this time.”

Even though the warning will be in effect until the end of the weekend, there will be a slight chance of rain in the forecast for Sunday afternoon.
