A brother’s love: Toddler lifts dresser off trapped twin

A toddler managed to rescue his twin brother from underneath a fallen dresser over the holidays, in a stunning display of determination, dedication, strength and love.
Bodie and Brock Shoff, 2, were playing in their Utah bedroom, climbing and pulling on a dresser when it fell over on them, pinning Brock to the floor.
Parents Kayli and Ricky Shoff posted a short video of the accident Dec. 31 online, then a longer version Monday.
Ricky Shoff admitted on Facebook that initially they were reluctant to post the video, made from a bedroom security camera, but felt trying to help other parents realize the dangers of heavy unanchored furniture around children was too important.
“I’ve been a little hesitant to post this. But I feel it’s not only to bring awareness, but it is also incredible,” Ricky Shoff wrote.
Bodie’s initial attempts to lift the mostly empty dresser were unsuccessful. But with his brother crying and squirming, he keeps trying, only pausing a couple of times to figure out a solution.
Eventually, Bodie pushes the furniture enough off Brock’s chest that Brock was able to wriggle out. He stopped crying almost immediately.
Their mother said she was in another room and neither parent knew anything had happened — the twins were playing when she checked on them — until they watched the video.
Kayli Shoff told a Utah TV station that she felt like “the worst mom” but also that she was very proud of Bodie.
Brock was not seriously injured.
The dresser has since been bolted to the wall.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that a child dies every two weeks in a tipover accident.
