Tune time: iPod turns 13

The iPod has become a teenager.

Introduced to the world on Oct. 23, 2001, Apple’s seriously portable music player made a splash as the company’s lone noncomputer offering. Load up those songs, America, these babies could hold up to 1,000 of them. The latest iteration can hold 40,000 songs and have cameras and connect with WiFi.

Apple is beginning to looks askance at its 13-year-old. There have been no updates since 2012 and sales have crawled, despite price cutting.

Another sign was the announcement that the company was pigeonholing the iPod to its “other” products. Gasp!

In the meantime, let’s revel in the fact that as an inanimate object, this teenager is not subject to mood swings or demands for an increase in allowance.
