A Phoenix man was killed while standing right outside his own front door.
It was about 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at an apartment complex on 36th Street south of Thomas Road. Two men approached 57-year-old Jose Felix.
“They spoke Spanish to him and they didn’t appear to know him,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Derek Elmore said.
Felix’s wife was just feet away inside the apartment.
“She saw them out there through the door,” Elmore said. “She didn’t think anything of it until she heard the shot.”
One of the men pulled a handgun from his waistband and fatally shot Felix. The suspects then fled on foot.
Our next case is an armed robbery inside a Walmart at Bethany Home Road and 95th Avenue. This happened on May 4, 2015, at about 1 p.m.
A guy came into the store and headed to the McDonald’s inside.
Elmore said he contacted an employee who just happened to be carrying the bank deposit bag from that McDonald’s and was heading to the bank inside the Walmart.
The robber showed the employee a knife, grabbed the deposit bag and fled the store. A car was waiting for him at the curb. He jumped in the passenger side and they drove off.
Did this robber have inside information and know exactly when and who to hit or did he just get lucky? Investigators aren’t ruling out a crime of opportunity. They’re following all leads.
