Heroic officer identified after girl found safe in Arizona following Amber Alert

PHOENIX — A girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert was found safe in Arizona on Monday.

The Amber Alert for 12-year-old Cassidy Hayes was canceled at about 2 p.m. The Department of Public Safety located the victim and suspect on US 89 south of Page in northern Arizona.

According to the ADPS, DPS Trooper Jesse Livingston — who is just three weeks out of the academy — was on his way home when he heard the Amber Alert call come over his DPS radio. Approximately an hour later, Livingston, along with another trooper, spotted the 2002 Gold Subaru Legacy in question and proceeded to conduct a felony stop in which Hayes’ abductor and stepbrother, Michael Malloch, Jr., surrendered without incident.

Hayes was allegedly abducted in Cathedral City, California. She is being returned to her family.

Police said Malloch wrote a suicidal note stating he can’t live without “her.”

Malloch was arrested and will be turned over to the custody of the FBI.
