Ned Lamont, left, tours the ship with advocates of the new holiday, Friday, June 10, 2022 in New London, Conn.. Lamont signed a copy of legislation that establishes a new legal state holiday on June 19 to be known as Juneteenth Independence Day, one of at least six adopted by states over the past few months. The original Amistad was a 19th century schooner known for a revolt in 1839, where captives who had been sold to slave traders took control of the ship, which was subsequently towed to New London.
