Buying someone a birthday gift is always a little challenging, but what in the world do you buy a 56-year-old doll?
If you have no idea what we’re talking about, Monday was Barbie’s birthday, or the day she debuted at the American International Toy Fair in New York, depending on how you view it.
Barbie is based on the German-made Lilli doll. Mattel designers first spotted Lilli in 1956 and later acquired the rights to the design in 1964.
Since then, Barbie has turned into a powerhouse. She’s a household name that stars in movies, video games and has spawned numerous other competitors.
