An Avondale man was arrested on Sept. 5 after Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s animal cruelty unit responded to a complaint about starving horses, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies booked Manuel Maria Siguenza, owner of one horse, three miniature horses and two ponies for lack of medical treatment and starvation.

Deputies found four out of the six horses to be in poor physical condition. A few of the horses were severely emaciated and some showed signs of a parasite infestation.
The miniature horse and one of the ponies also had neglected feet.
