MASSENA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say 30 people aboard a cruise ship have been injured when the vessel crashed into a wall while entering a lock on the St. Lawrence Seaway in upstate New York.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the 286-foot Saint Laurent was headed from Montreal to Toronto when it hit a wall in the Eisenhower Lock in Massena, near the Canadian border, around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. There were 274 French passengers and crew aboard.
The Coast Guard says 27 passengers and three crew members were injured. Officials say all were taken to the Massena hospital, where most were treated and released. Two people remain hospitalized Friday with serious injuries.
Officials say the water has been drained from the lock. Crews are assessing the damage before deciding how to remove the vessel.
The Saint Laurent is owned by Miami-based FleetPro, formerly International Shipping Partners.
The crash remains under investigation.
