Imagine lounging on soft sand on an ocean beach, then noticing a blue, alien-like mass accompanying the crashing waves.
Such was the scene Thursday morning in Florida, where thousands of dead jellyfish washed up and littered a Florida beach near Miami.
The purplish-blue Velella Velella aren’t actually “true” jellyfish and don’t pose a serious threat to sting. However, because winds and currents can brings the floating creatures onto shore, they were accompanied by stinging jellyfish, the city of Halldandale Beach, Fla., posted on Facebook.
Lifeguards waved warning flags to signal dangerous marine life and while tractors apparently went to work, attempting to clean up the beach, the Facebook said the process would a “gradual” one.
An odd sight here on the Beaches of Boca – hundreds, if not thousands of Man-o-War washing ashore. @WPTV pic.twitter.com/oj2oJF4Xjk
