According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the Phoenix Children’s Hospital will expand to Tucson after winnin g a contract with Tucson Medical Center to provide pediatric services in the hospital’s pediatric wing.
The contract will officially start on June 3. PCH will be able to provide inpatient pediatric hospitalist and intensive care services and is hiring its own staff of pediatric specialists to fill Tucson’s pediatric unit.
“This is our first pediatric presence in Southern Arizona,” said Dr. Ryan Bode, hospitalist division chief for PCH. “We currently take care of a fair amount of those patients who are forced to drive up from Tucson to Phoenix.
“Our main priority first off is to cover the inpatient unit. Our primary objective is not to compete with community pediatricians or specialists or at this point Banner University of Arizona, but to complement the specialists they do have.”
