PHOENIX — The improbable recovery of former Olympic gold medalist Amy Van Dyken-Rouen continued Friday, when she took her first steps with the aid of crutches.
Since severing her spine in an ATV accident in June 2014, Van Dyken-Rouen has been quite the inspiration. Within weeks of the accident, she was already in rehab.
She took her first steps with a walker in August 2014, rode a stationary bike without assistance in October 2014 and passed her hand-controlled driver’s test in January.
