Thanks to rumors of an Intel and Apple partnership, speculation has been raised in the possible reopening of an Intel factory in Chandler, Arizona, the Phoenix Business Journal reported.
Tech business website Venture Beat reported Intel will provide the fast wireless modem chip expected to be installed in a 2016 Apple smartphone.
If the Intel-iPhone partnership is true, Apple would have to stop using chips manufactured by Qualcomm and start using Intel assets, which could mean a change for the Fab 42 factory in Chandler.
Fab 42 has remained empty since its completion in 2013. The $1.7 billion building was completed before Intel decided to repurpose two smaller factories nearby for chip manufacturing.
