PHOENIX — Arizona State Sun Devils and Arizona Wildcats fans will have an opportunity to one-up their rivals for a good cause before Saturday’s basketball game.
Attendees will have the opportunity to help feed Arizona’s hungry by donating non-perishable food items to St. Mary’s Food Bank volunteers stationed outside Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe.
The volunteers will be wearing ASU maroon and gold and Arizona red and blue prior to the 2:30 p.m. game to accept donations and place them into bins featuring the respective team logos.
“We are thrilled to be able to help the local community in the biggest college basketball weekend of the season in the Phoenix area,” Sun Devils head coach Herb Sendek said in a statement. “St. Mary’s, as are all the local organizations who supply aid to those less fortunate, are truly wonderful in what they provide and we encourage all fans to invest what they can to help a great cause.”
St. Mary’s says the foods that are most needed are peanut butter, canned protein like tuna and other meats, boxed cereal and canned fruits and vegetables.
