As part of this weekend’s Super Bowl excitement, local Girl Scouts had until 2:59 p.m. Saturday to break the Guinness World Record for Most Money Raised for a Charity through the Sale of Cookies in 24 hours.

The 600 participating Girl Scout troops broke the record with two hours to spare.

The Girl Scouts reportedly sold a total of $355,024 worth of cookies, according to the organization’s official Wells Fargo bank account. That translates into roughly 88,756 boxes of cookies sold.

The girls shattered their goal of $75,000, hitting $77,000 in sales by 1 p.m.

The girls sold cookies in their neighborhoods, Super Bowl Central in downtown Phoenix, hospitality venues, and Fry’s Food Stores throughout Arizona in order to achieve the sales needed for the record.

The new world record is unofficial until the official verification process — which includes submitting copies of all deposit slips, along with photos and written accounts of the record attempt, to Guinness advisers — is completed.
