PHOENIX — The last thing Arizonans want to see is bad weather, but that is what has happened during a big sports week in the Valley.

The Waste Management Phoenix Open, which began this week in Scottsdale and continues through Sunday, dampened the return of Tiger Woods.

Rain began falling during Thursday’s first round at TPC Scottsdale and continued through Friday night.

Inclement weather didn’t stop the crowds from arriving, either. Fans set an opening day attendance record of 118,000. The previous mark of 88,000 was set last year.

Intense fog clouded the sky Super Bowl morning, but it cleared up by kickoff. The NFL planned to keep the roof open at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Something we don't see often in Arizona. So now what?

Game day weather was predicted to be typical for an Arizona winter — around 70 degrees and sunny, but the fog brought temperatures down to the 50s and 60s for the day.

Officials at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport said flight
operations are back to normal after the fog caused numerous delays and
cancellations Sunday morning.

Airport spokeswoman Heather Lissner said Sunday that all departing flights are
back on schedule. However, arriving flights are still trying to catch up.

Lissner said the fog led to 30 arriving and departing flights being canceled.
Another 80 flights coming and going were also delayed.

She says travelers should still check their flight status with the airline.
