Vegas on the mind? Hotel-booking site says Arizonans’ favorite destination is Nevada

Arizonans may like to take vacations to places like Rocky Point, Mexico, and various cities in California — such as San Diego — but when it comes to a favorite overall state, there’s a whole different answer.

According to HotelsCombined.com, Arizonans’ favorite state in which to book a room is Nevada.

The answer may not be surprising, as bustling Las Vegas is roughly a five-hour drive from the metro Phoenix area. The Battleborn State also boasts Reno and Laughlin among popular spots for out-of-towners.

Arizona is not alone in its love of Nevada, which is also the favorite destination of residents from California, Utah, Colorado and Montana, according to the hotel-booking site.

The data indicates the top destination for residents of each state, once we excluded bookings they made within their own state.

The Grand Canyon State has one major admirer: its neighbor to the east, New Mexico, whose residents book more hotel rooms here than in any other state.

Arizona also landed in the top 10 for the most popular states to visit, coming in at No. 8. California claimed the top spot on the list.

Additionally, Arizonans were found to be highly interested in travel, as the state was ranked third in this category behind Hawaii and Washington, D.C.

(T)here seems to be a concentration of travel interest out West, with Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming and Colorado all landing in the top 10. Because that region is also a hotspot for hotels booked, it’s safe to assume Westerners enjoy relatively brief trips across state borders to absorb the neighboring territory.

HotelsCombined notes that residents of some of the least-popular travel destinations seem to like their homesteads just fine, as many are among the least interested in taking a trip to another state.

We want to hear from you.
