Arizona prospective drivers encouraged to take driving school

Jan 19, 2015, 5:00 AM | Updated: 5:00 am

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation is working with 52 driving schools in the state to ensure young drivers are getting the best education possible.

The incentive for new drivers is a waiver to skip the written and skills tests required to attain their driver’s license and go straight to the front of the line to get their picture taken.

But first, those hoping to get a license and skip the line will have to go to driving school.

“The curriculum standards have been improved significantly,” said Maria Wojtczak, owner of Driving MBA. “Students at driving schools are required to earn 30 hours of classroom time and 10 hours of on-road instruction in order to receive a certificate and a waiver.”

Driving MBA is the only school in the state equipped with a driving simulator, which is similar to a machine a pilot would use to train. Student drivers are required to master a variety of real-world situations — from slick, wet roads to ice on a highway.

We want to hear from you.
