Local restaurants, NFL aid local food banks

For three months leading to up to the end of the year, restaurants from across the Valley worked diligently worked to raise money to help feed the state’s hungry population.

The reward for their hard work was a coveted spot at the Taste of the NFL’s Party with a Purpose, which is to be held on the eve of the Superbowl at WestWorld in Scottsdale.

The four restaurants which raised the most money as part of the TNFL’s annual Kick Hunger Challenge include Litchfield’s at the Wigwam, Dos Gringos, Four Peaks and Bourbon Jack’s.

“I’m from Chicago, so I know the plight of families in the Midwest,” said Bourbon Jack’s Executive Chef Jason Williams. “I’ve been out here three years and I am seeing that no matter what the sun shines on, there’s still trouble in some people’s homes. It feels good that we did this, that we were able to contribute somehow.”

The total amount raised was nearly $60,000, which will help non-profits Saint Mary’s Food Bank and Vista Del Camino.

“This is a spectacular event,” said Jerry Brown, Saint Mary’s Food Bank spokesman. “The event represents six figures and a million meals. The money raised at the event will also benefit food banks across the country.”

The winners of the challenge will have an opportunity to showcase and delight party-goers with exquisite cuisine along with top chefs from over thirty cities.

The lineup for the event includes culinary host Andrew Zimmern from the Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods and TNFL celebrity spokesperson Alyssa Milano.

NFL coaches and players, along with sports legends, are also expected to turn out for the event, which usually sells out. Grammy Award-winning country band Little Big Town is slated to serenade diners.
