LISTEN: 46th Scottsdale Art Festival has more than just art

The Scottsdale Art Festival is known for amazing art and great food but also live music.

Sure there are 170 jury-selected artists but also gourmet Valley food trucks for foodies, the Local First Arizona Marketplace and 20 Arizona bands and performers.

California-based Leftover Cuties is the headlining band playing Saturday at 4 p.m. The lead singer Shirli McAllen believes viewing art and listening to music really completes the experience.

“I think art and music go well together in general,” said McAllen. “Jazz in particular, people seem to love it while they’re walking around looking at art or just being outdoors and enjoying the day.”

The band describes their genre as a vintage pop with a “jazziness” to it.

“We’re an original band. We’ve been together for about 7 years,” McAllen said. “Right now we’re working on a new album, so we have a lot of new songs that we’re playing.”

The Leftover Cuties will join many other bands that will be playing continuous music on two stages throughout the weekend.

The high quality art from all over North America will include painting, sculpture, glass, ceramics, jewelry and photography. The festival is at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts and Civic Center Park. Admission is $10, and kids under 12 years old get in for free.
