SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Fiesta Bowl is giving $10,000 to former Olympic swimmer Amy Van Dyken-Rouen’s charity.

Fiesta Bowl officials announce the donation Saturday to Amy’s Army.

The nonprofit started by Van Dyken-Rouen will give financial assistance to paralysis sufferers whose health insurance won’t cover needed equipment.

OMG. Thank you so much to the #FiestaBowl for this amazing donation. #AmysArmy

Van Dyken-Rouen severed her spinal cord in an all-terrain vehicle accident near Show Low in June and is still paralyzed.

She served as grand marshal in the 44th annual Fiesta Bowl Parade on Saturday morning in central Phoenix.

The six-time Olympic gold medalist was the first American woman to win four gold medals in one games at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and won two more at Sydney four years later before retiring from competition.

We want to hear from you.
