Arizona experiences nation’s 5th largest population growth

Arizona’s population growth in the last year came in at just under 100,000 people, the fifth largest increase of any state in the nation, according to a report by the U.S. Census Bureau.
A combination of migration and new births led to a change of plus-96,487 people over a one-year period to bring Arizona’s total population to 6,731,484 as of July 1, according to the report.
That’s an increase of 1.45 percent over last year, the seventh highest increase in terms of percentages in the United States.
Ahwatukee Foothills News reports Arizona could gain a 10th congressional seat following the 2020 census count if the rate of increase continues.
Some of it involves people here having babies. More than 86,000 of them. But that was partly offset by nearly 52,000 deaths in the same period.
But what really fueled Arizona’s growth came from outside. According to Census Bureau figures, Arizona added close to 42,000 people who moved from some other state. And another more than 14,000 came here from other countries. That computes out to more than 150 people moving here each and every day of the year.
Texas saw the nation’s largest population increase in the last year, with over 450,000 new people living in the Lone Star State.
North Dakota was No. 1 in rate of increase, as its population grew by 2.16 percent.
