Magazine lists Joe Arpaio as one of ‘America’s 20 craziest politicians’

Dec 29, 2014, 8:20 AM | Updated: 9:58 am

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is part of a dubious list of 20 politicians from across the country.

Arpaio made the list of “America’s 20 Craziest Politicians” as featured in the January issue of GQ magazine.

Some of the reasons Arpaio came in at No 2. (although technically he isn’t a politician), according to its author Stephen Sherrill, include forcing inmates to wear pink underwear and housing them in a tent city that Arpaio described as a “concentration camp.”

Sherrill, a New York City-based writer, notes Arpaio also formed a volunteer “posse” that included actor Steven Seagal, and he allegedly denied sanitary products to Latina inmates.

The list was Republican-heavy, as 17 GOP members — including rumored 2016 presidential candidates Rand Paul and Ted Cruz — made the list. Just three Democrats, including Vice President Joe Biden, were named.

“While that may seem like standard liberal-media bias, the reality is that Democrats just aren’t keeping pace right now in the crazy department,” Sherrill wrote.
