PHOENIX — If your trees are full of fruit right now, there’s a high demand for any excess you might have.

St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance says it needs oranges, grapefruits and all kinds of fruit.

“We’re asking folks that if they harvest their trees, and they wind up with a lot more citrus than they can use, please bring those citrus donations to either St. Mary’s Food Bank location,” said Jerry Brown, public relations director for the organization.

Brown described which types of fruit the food bank is most seeking.

“Oranges, grapefruits, lemons, tangelos — anything along those lines, especially if they’re coming nice and ripe off of your tree. We would certainly enjoy getting those donations,” he said.

St. Mary’s can’t send anyone out to your house to pick your tree for you, but you can drop the citrus off at the either the food bank at 31st Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix or the one on Dysart and Bell roads in Surprise.

Brown asked that you not put citrus in the St. Mary’s food boxes at Goodwill locations, because only non-perishable food items are accepted there.

We want to hear from you.
