PHOENIX — A prominent soccer tournament will return to the Phoenix area in 2015, it was announced Tuesday.
The Mexican National Team will play one part of a doubleheader on July 12 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, the host site of the Super Bowl in February.
“The explosive growth of the game across CONCACAF has been on display recently on the world’s stage, and we now look forward to bringing this success home to our regional fans during our premier tournament,” federation president Jeffrey Webb said in a statement.
The doubleheader is part of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, an international tournament between countries from the Americas. The United States will compete.
A full schedule will be announced next year.
The tournament was last in Phoenix in 2009.
