GLENDALE, Ariz. — Law enforcement will be ready to handle any security threat when the Super Bowl is played in Glendale, Ariz., a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent said Monday.

“We are used to working together as a team and as a community, so I think we’re well-prepared,” Agent Douglas Price said during a multi-agency meeting.

Price said law enforcement faces serious challenges in keeping the event safe and dealing with any security situation, from suspicious packages to unruly fans, which is why dozens of federal, state and local leaders came together at University of Phoenix Stadium to review security procedures for the big game.

“We’ve been planning together for about a year and a half,” Kevin Kalkbrenner, director of Homeland Security with the city of Phoenix, said.

The FBI-lead meeting saw agencies practicing various security situations that could arise during the Super Bowl to test communication and coordination amongst the various levels of law enforcement.

“This really will start to work on integrating the different agencies; helping each other out to mitigate an incident,” Kalkbrenner said.

Price said the entire Valley will be busy during the Super Bowl.

“We’re expecting hundreds of thousands of folks here, not just for the Super Bowl, but we also have the golf event, we have all the other events from the city of Phoenix, Glendale, into Scottsdale, the whole area is going to just be full of people,” he said.
