ADOT officials announced the closure dates for the Grand Canyon’s North Rim on Thursday, in anticipation of wintry weather.
State Route 67 between Jacob Lake and the North Rim will close for the season on Dec. 1 until mid-May.
The roads could close earlier if the area receives heavy snow before the the planned date.
This closure is an annual occurrence as visitor accommodations at the North Rim are closed in the winter and ADOT does not clear snow from the roads there.
The South Rim is open year-round for those still looking to visit the famous canyon, and U.S. Route 89A will stay open at the junction with State Route 67.
To check road conditions before any trip this winter, drivers are encouraged to call 511 or visit az511.gov.
