Van Dyken-Rouen, 41, will flip the switch on more than 1 million lights.
“We are thrilled to have Amy as our special guest to honor not only what she has done in her athletic
career, but more importantly for the courage that she has displayed in her personal life,” Julie Watters, a spokeswoman for the city, said in a statement.
Van Dyken-Rouen severed her spinal cord in an all-terrain vehicle accident near
Show Low, Arizona, in June.
She hasn’t slowed down, though. Van Dyken-Rouen continues physical therapy and keeping followers updated on her social media accounts.
The weekend festivities start Friday at 6:30 p.m. and resume Saturday at 5 p.m.
The lights show in the historic area at 58th and Glendale avenues will be display nightly through Jan. 10. They’ll go on at 5 p.m. each night.
