PHOENIX — Former Olympic swimmer Amy Van Dyken-Rouen will help brighten downtown Glendale next week at the annual Christmas lights display.

Van Dyken-Rouen will be among the party people celebrating Glendale Glitters on Nov. 28.

Van Dyken-Rouen, 41, will flip the switch on more than 1 million lights.

“We are thrilled to have Amy as our special guest to honor not only what she has done in her athletic
career, but more importantly for the courage that she has displayed in her personal life,” Julie Watters, a spokeswoman for the city, said in a statement.

Van Dyken-Rouen severed her spinal cord in an all-terrain vehicle accident near
Show Low, Arizona, in June.

She hasn’t slowed down, though. Van Dyken-Rouen continues physical therapy and keeping followers updated on her social media accounts.

Not to bore you to death but here is more of the crawl. I need a nap…stat!!
