Scottsdale teens give back to families in need

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A group of Scottsdale teens are giving back to their community this holiday season.

Hundreds of struggling families in the Scottsdale area will receive a free Thanksgiving meal thanks to the help of the Scottsdale Mayor’s Youth Council.

“We care a lot about the city and the people that are here even the ones that may fall through the cracks or may fall on hard times.” Scottsdale Mayor’s Youth Council President Preston Wiley said.

Wiley said it is a privilege to help serve his community.

“I’m very blessed to be living here in the United States and very blessed to be living here in Scottsdale, and I think anything I can do to give back to that and preserve it for the next generation is something that I ought to be doing,” Wilson said.

He and dozens of other council members filled boxes and bags with classic holiday ingredients Monday and they also provided families with additional canned goods.

“We do this every year. We come in here, and we take these donations of various food items and we pack bags full of everything from condensed milk to stuffing,” Wilson said.

Meal recipients are a part of the city’s adopt-a-family program. They will be able to pick up their free Thanksgiving meal next week.

We want to hear from you.
