They know the drill: ASU kids set up camp for Notre Dame football tickets

Nov 7, 2014, 9:51 AM | Updated: 10:03 am

TEMPE, Ariz. — A weeklong campout for nearly a thousand Arizona State University students on university grounds was just about over Friday.

Students pitched their tents around Wells Fargo Arena days ago for the chance to sit in the student section at Saturday’s football game against Notre Dame. Both teams are hoping to stay alive in the hunt for the new college football playoffs.

“Camp Fargo” has been constructed on campus several times this season. At the head of the line, Jonathan Field and friends have set up a tribute to Pat Tillman, the former ASU star who was killed in action. Tillman turned away from a successful NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals to join the Army. He would have turned 38 on Thursday.

Fields’ tribute included all American military.

“Our overall goal is to say thank you for everything … We wanted to do that.

Field has been in line since Sunday morning but he can’t get his hands on the best tickets possible until 6:30 Saturday morning. He downplayed the lack of sleep.

“I have had plenty of sleep. Kind of. I’ve been getting about five hours of sleep, which, for me as a college student, is pretty much what I get anyway. So I can live off of that.”

We want to hear from you.
