PHOENIX — The University of Arizona now owns one of the nation’s most powerful radio telescope.
“We’re using this telescope to get a better understanding of the molecules and the chemical compounds that are created in our galaxy,” said Lucy Ziurys with the university.
Ziurys said the $14 million carbon fiber telescope will be used by researchers at UA, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University. It serves multiple purposes.
“Another thing we’re using this telescope for, or will be using the telescope for in the future, is to look at black holes in the centers or galaxies,” she said.
The telescope was made in Italy.
