Technical issues gum up ballot counting in Barber-McSally race

PHOENIX — A technical glitch was causing a delay in counting votes from Cochise County the morning after Election Day in Arizona.
Republican challenger Martha McSally led Democrat Ron Barber by 36 votes early Wednesday in U.S. Congressional District 2, but a machine that counts early ballots broke down. That forced election officials to ship those ballots to Graham County to be counted.
Cochise County voters account for about 18 percent of the district, which includes part of Pima County.
The Secretary of State’s unofficial results page listed 145 of the 194 precincts had reported.
