PHOENIX — Arizona is struggling to keep positive job growth numbers according to experts at the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
The state finished 2013 as one of the top 10 states with the highest job growth numbers. This year, it appears Arizona will miss that mark.
“The numbers are somewhat disappointing,” said Research Professor of Economics Lee McPheters. “According to our rankings Arizona drops down to No. 14.”
Seven of the 10 states on this year’s list are in the West, possibly squeezing Arizona out. However, McPheters notes troubling deficiencies which will continue to the slow the economic recovery.
“The state’s losing jobs in the construction industry, which is significant,” said McPheters.
“Manufacturing is flat and population growth is slow,” he said.
