PHOENIX — A pair of freeway accidents at opposite ends of the Phoenix area left one dead Thursday morning and one person injured.
Interstate 10 was closed each way between Phoenix and Casa Grande after a car crossed lanes into oncoming traffic. The deadly 5 a.m. crash was about five miles west of State Route 87 and involved four vehicles.
Westbound lanes reopened at State Route 187 around 9 a.m. and eastbound lanes reopened just after 1 p.m.
At the other end of the Valley, a burning semitruck blocked Interstate 17 south near Pioneer Parkway close to the Anthem area. One person was injured.
A spokesman for the Department of Public Safety said the big rig was already on fire when the driver pulled over.
