Missing Phoenix-area woman found safe in desert
PHOENIX — A West Valley woman who had been missing nearly a week was found Sunday in relatively fair condition in the desert near Surprise.
The rescue of Ethel Crescenzo of Surprise canceled a Blue Alert that had been in place since Thursday. She went missing Tuesday.
Law enforcement authorities said a man called to report a suspicious car near 179th Avenue and Dove Valley Road. Surprise Police and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office responded with a four-hour search that included dogs and a helicopter. Crescenzo’s car was spotted down an embankment and she was found in the area.
The 79-year-old was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor bruises and scratches. She told police that she had gotten lost and was unsure how long she’d been gone. She had planned to go to Talking Stick Casino near Scottsdale.
