Light one up: Arizona to start accepting medical marijuana dispensary applications

PHOENIX — There could soon be more medical marijuana dispensaries opening in Arizona.
Tom Salow with the Arizona Department of Health Services said the department will start accepting applications for dispensary certifications this summer.
“We’re providing the public with some notice that we’re going to anticipate accepting dispensary applications this summer,” he said. “We don’t have an exact date yet, but we will have that exact date ironed out at least 30 days in advance.”
Salow said he doesn’t know how many certificates will be accepted, but thinks it will be more than 20.
In order to be considered for a dispensary certification, Salow said applicants will have to file at least three pieces of paperwork.
“One will include their name, their proposed address, their corporate information, their structure, their first officers and their board members,” he said.
The other documents will be signed off by the local zoning board to show the company is in compliance with any zoning restrictions and potential landowner or building owner that they are using the address for in their application, Salow said.
Even though applicants will not be able to submit their certification applications online, they can access the applications on the department’s website once the official announcement is made later this year.
