PHOENIX — Some of the cheapest car insurance rates in the country are in the Valley, according to a survey from InsuranceQuotes.com.
Metro Phoenix had the seventh-cheapest rates out of the 25 biggest U.S. cities. “Rates are 10 percent below the national average (of $797),” Laura Adams said. Adams is an analyst for the company.
She said cities that experience a lot of rain, hail and flooding tend to have higher premiums.
Detroit motorists pay the most for car insurance, shelling out more than $2,000 each year on average. Charlotte, North Carolina, had the lowest rates (43 percent below the national average).
Drivers who want to save more should be proactive in the hut, Adams said. “Ask your insurance agency or company what discounts you may qualify for that you haven’t thought of.”
She also recommended comparison shopping among multiple companies.
