PHOENIX — The lone survivor of the Arizona firefighting squad killed in the Yarnell Hill wildfire, has been appointed to a board tasked with shepherding a memorial to that team.
Former Granite Mountain Hotshot Brendan McDonough was named to the board by Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin on Tuesday.
Gov. Jan Brewer signed the bill in April that authorized
establishment of the memorial.
McDonough was a mile away on duty as lookout when fast-moving flames turned on his 19 friends and teammates June 30, 2013. He said he has battled post-traumatic stress. He left the Prescott Fire Department in January.
