PHOENIX — Two city officials said they’d like to see the state help out residents whose homes near South Mountain were damaged in last week’s storms.
Mayor Greg Stanton and Councilwoman Kate Gallego toured several homes near 23rd Avenue and Dobbins Road on Tuesday.
“This was a devastating, devastating storm that stayed over the area for a prolonged period of time,” Stanton said.
Many homeowners did not have flood insurance because the area is not in a designated flood zone.
“They (the state) need to make their own determination. Once you see the devastation you can’t help but help the families and children in this area,” Stanton said.
Gallego said if the area was declared a disaster then more people will have access to financial help.
