LISTEN: Tempe coffee shop chosen best in state

PHOENIX — The best coffee shop in Arizona is the Valley’s Cartel Coffee Lab. That’s according to Business Insider.

The business-news website chose one shop for each state by looking at expert reviews and local recommendations.

“What I believe sets us apart is the quality of our beverages and the actual coffee that we bring in to roast and share with our customers,” said Jason Silberschlag, owner and founder of Cartel Coffee Lab, which opened in Tempe in 2008.

Taking time in the morning to have coffee can have a social and emotional affect, he said.

“When we first started this company, our goal was actually to create community, not to sell great coffee,” he said.

“We’re really driving people to move away from a consumption based idea with coffee and really into enjoyment and more of a ritual based.”

Cartel Coffee Lab has six locations in Arizona. The Tempe shop is at University Drive and Ash Avenue.
